| A COLD JANUARY DAY AT MARTIN MERE - 2008 |
| BARNACLE GOOSE |
I was delighted when a Barnacle Goose flew in, just as I started to do a bit of bird watching and identification, I haven't seen this particular Goose for some little time, it stayed around long enough for me to take this picture tthen disappeared

| GREYLAG |

a familiar sight at Martin Mere, Greylag Geese, plenty on the ground, in the water - everywhere - but I caught these two on a "fly past"

| PINTAIL |

| This has to be in my top ten - the Pintail really is a very beautiful duck |

| had to have a profile shot so that the tail can be appreciated!! |

| finally - in flight once more |

| and last but not least, Shelduck |

There really wasn't much happening on this particular day when I visited Martin Mere, there were very few photographic opportunities, it was a very cold and windy day and perhaps that's why there was so little action. Normally there are raptors about which makes the birds fly about more - but on this visit there was very little. There is always the next time .... |
These pictures were taken using the Canon 40d camera with the 100-400mm IS lens
Just an afterthought - II coud not leave Martin Mere without including a picture of the Whooper Swans - here two adults with 6 juveniles - I wonder what the youngster in the centre was saying to create so much interest!!
